show the kitten where the box is and let nature take over. once you put the kitten in the box, it will know what it’s for and use it. they instictively want to have a place to bury the badness, and they learn quickly.

Cat Training Guide To Success

There is no training involved. Cats naturally bury their waste. The litter you are using may not appeal to the cat. Try regular sandbox sand before moving on to clumping litter..

try putting it in the box a couple times a day and scratching its paws around in the litter …. also you can try using a paper plate with just a little litter on it and scratch its paws on it

You should have put the kitten directly into the litter box as soon as you brought it home. Now, I think you need to put the kitten into the litter box ever so often several times a day. If it messes on the floor take the kitten directly to the litter box and put it in it. I have owned cats for years and have not had a problem getting one to use the litter box either. Keep trying she will get it eventually!
Good Luck!

I had a kitten do this. I put just ended up putting into the box every time i caught it in the act. If you find some of its “leavings” you can also bury it in the litter so that the cat can smell itself in the box. It is more likely to go there. Also make sure the litter is no where near the food or water. It may take a few days to get it through its head that it needs to go in the box. Make sure that you clean up the “accidents” with vinegar and water mixture that way they wont go back and use that spot thinking that is where they are supposed to go. If the kitten is very small the box may be too big for it so make sure the sides arent too high. I found that a cardboard box with a side that is about an 2 inches high works well for the first couple of weeks. The kitten wont go in the box if it feels overwhelmed by it.

Let the kitten see you crapping in the litter box. This “learning by example” technique has always worked for me.

If the little one has been using a area of carpet, usually in a corner, see if you can place a litter box there. You can’t watch every minute, so, limit the area that the kitten can roam in. Close as many doors as you can. If you can catch him/her in the act, scoop the kitten up and gently place it in the litter box. You may have to do this a few times. It’s a baby. Be patient. I have just gone through all this with my newest one. And she was the first to have this little quirk. At 7 mos. old, I am pretty sure her confusion is over. Good Luck!

I’ve never had a problem with this before…. it all most seem instinctively the kitten knew where to go. I guess that comes from what everyone one else says that cats like to find a place to buried it. Just put it into the litter box every time it relieves itself somewhere else. It’s probably almost the same way you train a dog. If it poops/ urinates in the house … you have to tell them in a commanding voice no! and take them to where they’re supposed to go. … Be sure to clean the spot really good cause he/she might try to use it there again.

Cat Training Guide To Success

Most kittens learn from their mother; but, if the kitten was removed from the mother at an early age; it’s going to be to the human ‘Mama’ to take care of this training.

It’s going to take a lot of patience. But, you have to continually put the kitty in the box. Every time she pops out, put her back in until she uses the box. Once she uses it…PRAISE HER and rub her tummy. This will inspire her.
