Amber C. is right-cats have a natural instinct to cover their feces, so they tend to use the box instinctively. I hand raised a kitten that didn’t have a mother since he was 2 weeks old, and I did essentially what she recommends and he learned just fine.
I just wanted to add–if they do use the floor, put it in the box so that their scent is there. That will only encourage them all the more.
As for type of litter–with the cat I have now, I have used crystal litter since she was a kitten and she has always liked it. I like it because it absorbs smell better than other kinds. Or, you could try the clay litter mixed with the crystals if they don’t like that. Cats can have a variety of preferences for types of litter, so if they don’t seem to want to use the box with one type, you may need to experiment.
Put then in the box, then take a paw and gently use it to scratch the litter. They catch on really fast.
Put them in a small room like your bathroom for a couple of days. Show them the litter box. They usually are able to train themselves. And that way if they do have an accident then they will have it on the tile floor.
watch ur oldest cat and when it goes to the bathroom make sure the little kittys see then when the little kittys go to the bathroom make sure its in the box thts how u taught my cats
If all of the kitties in your house are up to date with the shots they need for the age that they are, then I see no reason why they could not watch your older cat and learn from it. I would also recommend putting them in just one room until they are litter box trained.
For kittens that young, you need to use only clay litter. When they are that young they sometimes eat the litter because that is how they explore their world. The clumping and crystal litter is harmful to them if they do eat it. You need to use clay litter until they are at least 8 weeks old. Good luck.
two to three weeks old kittens should still be with their mother sh stimulates them by washing their little behinds until they are like eight weeks old and can eat on their own.they also should have Special milk from the vet or a hard ware store for nursing kittens.you cant possibly potty train these kittens yet you need to bottle feed them and wash their little behinds with a warm wash cloth ,because they will only poo liquid until they start eating on their own at six weeks you may try feeding them some kitten food with warm milk on it then put them right in a litter box after they have eaten.good luck
