shuld we train kittens?

Guys i am looking for a kitten and was wondering what all things I need to be prepared of before getting one. I have a puppy and we took him for obedience training. Shuld i train my kitten too other than litter training? like sit, stay and stuff. Also shuld i really worry about neutering him if hes male?
we have a1.5 yr old lab puppy, hes very lovable and cute and very friendly to all. So he wont make any kind of trouble to the kitten, that I can guarantee. he got lots of Patience.

If the kitten is left with it’s mum long enough she will start social training and litter training. You may want to go another step further by teaching him/her to use a scratch post, show him where the litter tray is in your house and get him used to being handled by you and to accept the dog. As for sitting and staying they tend to do what they want.

It’s worth getting them fixed regardless of sex. It helps prevent health problems in future, helps stop males spraying and makes them less Territorial. Also if he goes out or gets out he’s less likely to roam and won’t get some unfixed female pregnant, (he’s less likely to be interested which can help him prevent picking something nasty up from her), With females it stops them going into heat too, some queens can be quite noisy plus if they do go or get out you could have unwanted kittens and the possibility of large vets bills on your hands.

Please have him nuetered. Male cats are more likely to spray your home if he is not fixed. Also he is more likely to get feline AIDS. Also go online and look for preparing your home for a kitten. Having a kitten is just like having a baby they get into everything at their level and put everything in their mouth. Its not neccisary to teach your cat to sit or stay and im not sure if you would be able to find a class for him or her either. As far as things go with the puppy and the kitten im sure when they first met the kitten wont be very happy about it. Puppy’s don’t comprehend personal space very well which can be intiminating to a kitten. After a week or two they will be the best of friends. Please consider adoption

You don’t need to train cats to "sit" or "stay," this is mostly for most dogs and puppies. Cats are basically independent. They don’t need you to give them a bath, they groom themselves, you don’t need to train them, they don’t usually jump up on people, and all you basically have to do it litter train them and so on…. You know, the basics.

Also, getting your cat fixed if it is male OR female does add a little to the vet bill, but, if you have a male cat that is not fixed, he could get tangled up with a female cat, and you could make some innocent person have kittens on their hands.

Also, if your male cat does not get fixed, he could go a little crazy, and you might often find him going outside to follow a female cat’s scent.

You will never find a kitten or cat that will be amenable to obedience training. It won’t happen.

Yes you must neuter your male cat, spay your female cat. They will be healthier and happier and live longer.

If the kitten is left with its mother long enough (minimum 8 -10 weeks), the mother will litter-train the kitten. All you need to do is provide the litter box and show the kitten where it is. When they are little, if your house is big enough you may need to provide a couple of litter boxes so your kitten doesn’t have any accidents trying to get a long distance to one. Maybe try one litter box on each floor while they’re small so that they can easily get to it in time.

Your kitten will need shots of course as well as neutering/spaying. By not fixing your cat, you expose it to STD’s, fighting, having kittens or getting someone else’s cat pregnant, various cancers, etc.

In addition, your kitten will require high quality kitten food and around 1 year of age, you can slowly start switching to adult cat food. This also must be high quality. It can prevent many illnesses as your cat matures which can be very costly to deal with.

Absolutely get him neutered. As for training — yes, people, you CAN train cats, and some take to it readily. (Think of all the cats in movies and T.V. commercials.) Unless you like getting cat hair in your food, at minimum, you should train them to stay OFF the table and kitchen counters (and maybe your favorite sofa), to scratch ONLY the scratching post you’ve provided, and to come when called (ok, at least SOME of the time.) My husband has also trained our 6 month-old kitten to play "fetch" with a piece of balled-up aluminum foil and to meow when our dog is asking to be let back in the back door.

You can try to train your kitten–but keep in mind that kittens in general don’t have a long attention span and will probably not do any tricks they may have learned when they hit adolescence. I’ve trained several of our cats to sit, come, shake, some other things but they’ve all been adult cats, I’ve never tried to train a kitten since they tend to be here and there and over there and then back here all within a nanosecond. It’d be good to start "training" your kitten to accept having you touch him all over–tail, stomach, feet, ears, etc. so when he does have to go to the vet, he doesn’t have issues; and if you have to treat him for anything or when you do your routine cleaning his ears and clipping his nails, he easily allows you to that. You should start cleaning his ears regularly and clipping his nails. Also you should start brushing him so he gets used to that (maybe even comes to love it). You can teach your kit to play games too–fetch (either a small ball or my cat fetches hair elastics (don’t use rubberbands, too easily swallowed). Maybe even a kind of soccer.

I’d recommend you get any male cat neutered (female spayed). And as early as possible before he starts spraying. He won’t ever have the sex hormone surges that distract cats from everything else, the male probably won’t even start spraying and if he should accidentally get outside, he won’t father unwanted kittens. He’ll also be very sweet and loving since he never goes through "get outta my way, gotten find me a girlfriend" phases every few months.
